Business Masters Awards: ‘The awards offer an ideal platform to showcase fantastic work and achievements’

Helen Wathall, managing director of Derby funeral director Wathall’s, was presented with the prestigious Ambassador award at the East Midlands Business Masters Awards earlier this year.

Wathall, who in the same week was presented with an MBE for her services to business and community work, was praised by the judges for her consistent commitment to the local economy over a sustained period and many years.

Reflecting on her award win, she said: “It was a huge honour to be chosen for this prestigious award.

“Recognition through awards is an ideal platform to showcase the fantastic work that everyone in a company contributes to and to showcase causes that are close to someone’s heart.

“I am very proud to be the fifth generation of my family and the first woman to head up Wathall’s. I hope that this will inspire other women to make their mark in what has traditionally been a male dominated profession.

“I am particularly pleased that the award also highlighted what continues to be achieved collectively under the St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District in Derby of which I am chair.”
