Chancellor to announce changes to furlough scheme – reports

Businesses could be asked to pay 20% of workers’ wages plus national insurance and pension contributions, as Chancellor Rishi Sunak gears up to make an announcement about the future of the furlough scheme.

The Guardia reports that the government will pay 60% of each wage up to a cap of £2,500 a month from August.

Sunak is set to give an update on the furlough scheme today (Friday 29 May).

Around a third of the UK’s workforce (8.4 million workers) have been furloughed, at a cost of £15bn.
