Derbyshire sees surge in scams according to Santander Scamtracker

Derbyshire has been hit hard by scams, with a total of £1.3m lost to fraudsters in the first quarter of 2025.
This marks a staggering 467% increase compared to the previous quarter, according to Santander’s new Quarterly Scamtracker.
The tracker highlights trends in financial fraud, focusing on Authorised Push Payment (APP) scams.
Santander has issued a warning to customers in Derbyshire, urging them to stay vigilant.
The county saw a 10% increase in scam volume since the last quarter of 2024, ranking them second for scam value outside of London, following closely behind Devon, which saw a total of £1.3m in losses as well.
Kent reported the highest number of scams outside of London, with 208 cases, but Derbyshire was not far behind with 104 incidents.
Other areas such as Hampshire and Greater Manchester also saw notable increases in scam activity.
Chris Ainsley, head of fraud risk management at Santander UK said: “£1.3 million is a staggering amount to have been taken from our customers in Derbyshire and placed into the criminal underworld. Scams are evolving at breakneck speed, which can make staying on top of the new ones customers with the information they need to protect themselves from these criminals is vital if we don’t want exceptionally hard for customers.
