On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Dave Taylder

East Midlands-based consulting engineer Howard Ward Associates (HWA) has recently welcomed two new appointments to its engineering team.

The construction engineering consultancy, which has offices in Nottingham, has appointed Dave Taylder as a principal engineer and Callum Booth as a civil engineering technician.

Dan Bailey, director at HWA, said: “It is our pleasure to welcome both Dave and Callum to the HWA team. It has a been a challenging and uncertain year for many and we are glad that we can share this positive news during this unprecedented time. Both Dave and Callum bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be a positive addition to our offering.”

Dr Rhys Thomas

Dr Rhys Thomas has joined Lincolnshire based PP-L Health Technology Solutions as chief medical and scientific officer.

The firm helps organisations manage and reduce the transmission of COVID-19.

Earlier this year, Dr Thomas invented one of the only two devices to have succeeded in the Government’s Covid Emergency Ventilator Challenge, winning approval by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency). The device is about to complete its medical trials in the UK and overseas, so it can be used to support ICUs this winter.

Previously, he worked at the government’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) Porton Down which carries out research into chemical weapons and deadly diseases. He has also served as a consultant anaesthetist in the British Army and the NHS, where he continues to treat coronavirus patients in UK hospitals.
