Funeral director reveals plans to redevelop Clifton garage

Nottinghamshire’s largest independent funeral director, A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service, has bought one of the county’s longest standing mechanics premises – Bob Sherwin’s garage in Clifton – with plans to transform the facility and expand its offering.

A.W. Lymn first arrived in Clifton in 1990, based at Chaworth House on Varney Road. The relocation, which is set to happen next year, will allow Lymns to extend its offering as it continues to expand across the region, with a total of 27 funeral homes throughout Nottinghamshire and South Derbyshire.

The garage, on Southchurch Drive. has been sold to A.W. Lymn by Bob Sherwin, well-known in Clifton, after 42 years of service in the area.

Pete Clarson, commercial director at A.W. Lymn, said: “We had been looking for new premises in Clifton for a few years, we acknowledged that we could improve our services if we had a new facility, so we began looking for alternatives in the area. Chaworth House is a lovely facility and has served us well over the past 30 years, but it had little scope to expand, so relocating was the best solution for us.”

He added: “When we heard the news Bob was retiring and putting the garage up for sale, we knew immediately it would make a great new home for our Clifton team. The garage provides us with a blank canvas to start from scratch and redesign the building to our exact requirements. We know many people are sad to see Bob retire, so we hope to continue his community ethos and support those in the local area the best we know how. We’re looking forward to this new project, improving our services and continuing to offer our support to the families of Clifton.”

The transformation will be subject to an approved planning application, which A.W. Lymn will submit later this year.
