Lucy Sauvage

Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO has made two new hires to its tax risk team.

Salman Anwar joins as associate director for the Midlands and North and brings experience from working in an advisory firm and for HMRC.

Haris Rehman has been appointed as a manager in the team. He has also built a track record in helping clients with HMRC enquiries, having started his career as a fraud and investigations specialist at HMRC where he spent five years.

Lucy Sauvage, tax risk partner at BDO, said: “Businesses are facing a myriad of pressures as they navigate the long-term impacts of the pandemic and an increasingly complex tax environment. We work with businesses to proactively address gaps in their tax control framework to support their long-term goals, as well as helping clients to respond to HMRC enquiries and investigations in order to reach an effective solution with HMRC.

“Our own team has expanded on the back of our clients’ growth and the resilience of the mid-market. It’s brilliant to announce new hires across the region as BDO commits to attracting the best talent into all areas of the business.”

Sara Carbone

FRAME, the Nottingham medical research charity committed to reducing the number of animals used in scientific testing, has appointed communications professional Sara Carbone as a trustee.

A specialist in marketing and digital communications, Caborne has more than 17 years’ experience in the publishing and charity sectors.

“For many years, my work has focused on the communication of a wide variety of health and scientific issues to many diverse audiences, and the importance and value of robust research and experimentation has always been a key element of this, regardless of the specific field,” Caborne said.

She added: “A future where we use non-animal models is one where research results will be more accurate and precise, and drugs and methodologies will be more effective and safer for us all. Just as importantly, it is also a future where cruelty to animals will be obsolete, and there will be a greater respect and appreciation for the natural world – something we must do all we can to protect and preserve.

“FRAME is at a very exciting point in its development, and there are so many great opportunities to further increase its visibility and communicate its impact. I am excited to help support this work from a strategic communications perspective, as well as work with a diverse group of fellow trustees whom I will learn so much from.”
