Plans revealed for new Lace Market bar

The takeaway on Stoney Street

Plans to turn the basement store room of a popular fish and chip takeaway in Nottingham city centre into a bar have been revealed.

Bas Alla, who owns the Lace Market Fish Bar at 3-5 Stoney Street has submitted the plans to the city council. If successful, the plans could create nine jobs at the new venue.

The Fish Bar has long been a popular haunt for both hungry office workers and night time revellers alike, but the building itself was built at the end of the 19th Century as a warehouse. It is now Grade II listed.

According to documents submitted with the planning application, the development would “help the existing business remain viable and bring more of the building into productive use”.

The statement adds: The proposals will have negligible impact on the street scene and local amenity, and on the two nearby conservation areas, and what impact it does have will be positive. Therefore, permissions
for the proposed change of use should be granted.”
