Future of furniture firm unclear as inflation bites

The future is looking increasingly uncertain for a Derbyshire furniture manufacturer after it filed a notice of intention (NOI) to appoint administrators.

The move will mean that Acclaim Upholstery, which has its head office in Long Eaton, is protected from creditor action for a period of two weeks.

According to its latest accounts, made up to 31 March 2022, Acclaim employs 144 people.

The accounts paint of a picture of a company struggling with labour and raw material shortages – as well as price inflation. The accounts cover an eight-month period, during which time Acclaim made a loss before tax of £456,144. Turnover dropped from £10.6m to just over £7m.

Acclaim was founded in 1983 and has been making bespoke furniture ever since.

The company has been contacted for comment.
