Plans revealed for student housing on former antiques store site

A former antique shop in Leicester may face demolition to create room for student housing.

Plans are in progress for 50 apartments within two separate blocks on the premises of the Leicester Antiques warehouse, situated on Welford Road.

Notably, the site has previously received approval for a 43-unit residential block, however, updated plans swap parking spaces for additional flat accommodations.

The location has remained vacant since the warehouse ceased operations in October 2019.

The recently submitted proposals to Leicester City Council outline 29 flats across four stories, with a second block at the rear, spanning three stories and housing the remaining 21 units.

Developer Rampard Ltd has pointed out that the elimination of the initially proposed car parking spaces raises concerns about vehicles revising onto the primary road, however, the new plan does include provision for 34 bicycle parking spaces.

In the previous year, approval was granted to convert the adjacent property into student housing.

This approval included the construction of 18 flats within a single three-story building.
