Plans put forward for 4,000 homes in Nottinghamshire

Thousands of new homes could be built in Nottinghamshire.
Plans are in place for approximately 4,000 homes to be built on the Chetwynd Barracks and neighbouring Toton site, pending approval by councillors.
The project has faced delays, which include setbacks resulting from the cancellation of HS2’s eastern leg in 2021, the Ministry of Defence’s extension of the barracks’ closure date to 2026, and, most recently, the absence of Levelling Up Funding for a key link road needed to open up the area.
Following a thorough review by an external planner, the updated neighbourhood plan will be presented to Broxtowe Borough Council’s cabinet on Tuesday, February 6.
If approved, it will proceed to a public referendum.
The project would also feature a primary school, a medical centre, a small retail and service hub catering to local requirements, and modest office spaces.
Residents living close to the military site, eligible to participate in the local referendum, expressed nostalgia for the barracks but expressed backing for its future development plans.
