Housing association builds for the future with new director hire

David Langhorne

David Langhorne has joined Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) in the new role of director of asset management.

He’ll oversee its Property Services team, forming a new directorate that’s dedicated to the upkeep of their existing portfolio of 10,000-plus homes.

He’s joined the social housing provider at a time of big change. NCHA is moving away from contractor provision for responsive repairs. From 8 April, the organisation will be delivering the service using their own in-house operatives.

Langhorne has almost 20 years’ experience in social housing, he joins NCHA from Your Homes Newcastle, where he managed housing stock and led on investments of over £1bn.

He also oversaw the transfer and transformation of an in-house construction and repairs team, with 550 employees completing over 80,000 repairs per year, at an annual turnover of £60m.

Langhorne said: “Being an independent body, we’ve got a greater ability to directly and quickly influence the happiness of our customers. For me, this is the most important thing.

“I’ve worked in housing for most of my career, so I’m really excited to be working with NCHA customers and finding out how we can improve the way we look after their homes.

“We’ve got a busy few months ahead, bringing our responsive repairs in-house, but we’re in a great position to make that transition a success.”
