70-home development approved despite concerns

South Holland District Council has given the green light to a controversial development comprising 70 homes in Spalding, despite criticism branding the designs as “hideous”.
The council’s planning committee approved the housing project on the former Ivanda Nursery site off Monks House Lane during a meeting on Wednesday, February 7.

Originally proposing 76 new homes, the plan underwent revisions to its layout and house types. The updated application now features six one-bedroom, 28 two-bedroom, 30 three-bedroom, and six four-bedroom houses, spread across over 2.3 hectares.

In the planning statement, the company said: “The site is adjoined on three sides by existing residential estate development, forms part of a large residential neighbourhood on the western side of the town. The locality, except the nursery, is wholly residential, and a suitably scaled residential development will remove what has become a non-conforming use within the built-up area.
