Loughborough Sport strengthens leadership team with new directors

Olivia Murphy and Rich Ellis

Loughborough Sports has strengthened its team with the appointment of two new directors, Olivia Murphy and Rich Ellis.

Both have worked in the sports sector for 34 years, Murphy represented England in international netball for 15 years, accruing 95 caps and serving six of those years as captain.

She has also coached England teams across all age groups and has held roles such as assistant or head Coach and regional manager at England Netball and senior positions at Loughborough Sport, most recently serving as head of performance support and interim head of performance.

Ellis, also an alumnus of Loughborough University, has played a role in improving Loughborough Sport’s commercial offerings, establishing partnerships with brands such as PLAE, Eleiko, BLK BOX, Catapult, and the NFL Academy.

He led the transformation of Loughborough’s gym ecosystem, including the design and development of the powerbase facilities.

Both will transition into their new roles immediately, with Murphy assuming the position of head of performance and Ellis advancing from his current role as interim head of commercial partnerships and sports facilities.

Richard Wheater, director of Sport at Loughborough University, said: “After acting up onto the Senior Leadership Team for the last eight months I’m delighted to be able to announce that Olivia Murphy and Rich Ellis have both been appointed as Deputy Directors of Sport.

“Both are Loughborough through and through and represent our values, culture, and behaviours. I have had the privilege to work with them both for many years and I’m super proud to be continuing alongside them in the next step of their careers. Loughborough University is a great place to work and we must continue to develop the leaders of the future. Both Rich and Liv are an example of the development that Loughborough achieves.

“I look forward to working with them and the rest of SLT to shape our next chapter as we begin to broaden our wings within the University and beyond. I’d like to place on record my congratulations to them both.”
