Nottingham City Council reveals new chief executive

Sajeeda Rose

Nottingham City Council has a new chief executive.

The authority has chosen Sajeeda Rose to succeed Mel Barrett, who was being paid just over £190,000 a year before he left to become the chief executive of Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing.

Rose has been the corporate director for growth and city development at Nottingham City Council, which is presently being overseen by Government commissioners after announcing a significant gap in its budget.

She was also the CEO of the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership for almost three years.

She was involved in delivering the LEP’s £250m Local Growth Fund and securing an additional £44m of Getting Building Funding to support the regional economy. More recently she led the successful bid for an East Midlands Freeport, the only inland freeport in the country.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Following an extensive recruitment and selection process, Sajeeda Rose has been appointed as Nottingham City Council ’s new chief executive subject to formal approval at a meeting of Full Council on Monday 5 August.”

The Government appointed commissioners to run the city council in February.

The commissioners have been granted extensive powers and will oversee the full range of the council’s “improvement activities”, including strategies to secure the medium and long term financial sustainability of the council and plans to transform front line services.
