Plans have surfaced for a 70-acre solar farm, which could be built near a golf course and holiday lodge site in Derbyshire.

Solar energy company Anesco has started a public consultation for the project, which is planned for agricultural fields off Knights Lane between Bretby and Newton Solney.

The developers are discussing the plans with South Derbyshire District Council before submitting a formal application.

The project involves installing solar panels on fields near Knights Lodges of Bretby, next to the Planters at Bretby garden centre and close to Burton golf club.

The farm could generate 21 megawatts of electricity per year, enough to power 7,792 homes.

Anesco aims to complete the project by April 2029, with planning submitted this year and construction starting in late 2027 or early 2028.
