On the move: the latest East Midlands hires
Law firm Nelsons has appointed a new senior associate to its expert commercial litigation department in Nottingham.
Dominic Simon trained at Shakespeare Martineau after graduating from Nottingham Law School in 2018 and has worked as a commercial litigation solicitor since 2020.
He has made the move to Nelsons from Eversheds Sutherland where he has spent the past three years as an associate focusing mainly on financial banking services litigation.
Simon has experience in breach of contract, indemnity claims, shareholder disputes, partnership disputes, and misrepresentation.
He also specialises in commercial litigation for manufacturers, providing tailored solutions to complex legal challenges, with an understanding of the commercial pressures manufacturers face.
Simon said: “I decided to move to Nelsons as a chance to get back into a broader variety of commercial litigation. I have gained invaluable experience with Eversheds Sutherland, and now feel the right time for the next step in my career.
“With the variety of dispute areas that Nelsons covers and a highly regarded litigation practice, I am eager to get stuck in with the team. The positive workplace culture of the firm was another big motivation for the move, along with the exciting growth strategy, which has been accelerated since Nelsons became part of Lawfront. It’s been great to speak to the commercial litigation team about these plans and look at the best ways to support the East Midlands market. I am particularly interested in the work around the manufacturing sector and product liability, which is an area of specialism for the team.”
To strengthen its sustainability consulting team and services, multi-disciplinary consultancy Pick Everard has appointed its first associate circular economy consultant to the practice.
Jonny Burke, who brings 14 years’ experience to the firm in management consultancy roles, joins Pick Everard with a background in circular economy strategy, investment planning, environmental strategies and asset management.
In his previous role, he led the development of a global circular economy strategy, working on client-facing projects for National Highways and Hitachi-BAM.
In his new role, Burke will work closely with both public and private sector clients to help identify and secure opportunities to implement circularity in both organisational practices and on built environment projects, helping advance low-impact, future-proofed, and whole-life value solutions.
He said: “This is a growing business and having recently joined Pick Everard, I can already see there are significant opportunities to help our clients achieve their net zero and wider sustainability goals through the implementation of circular economy principles.
“As a consultant, and with the support of the wider practice, I am well-positioned to help clients move from understanding the concepts of the circular economy to meaningful implementation that improves the whole life value of projects, supports the transition to net zero, and delivers resilient, adaptable solutions.”
Tim Danson director of sustainability and energy at Pick Everard, said: “The circular economy is crucial not only for the projects we deliver but for our practice as a whole. Having Jonny on board, with his extensive experience in strategy development and asset management, strengthens our ability to adopt circular economy practices across all disciplines. His expertise also enhances our capabilities to deliver comprehensive sustainability offerings at all lifecycle stages of client projects and initiatives.
“Already, we’re working together to deliver a three-year plan that will position our teams as leaders in this field, ensuring that our clients can join us on this journey and benefit from the outcomes. The circular economy continues to gather significant pace across the industry. By articulating and identifying the art of the possible now, we are already making a positive impact on our clients.”
