Escape rooms planned at former law firm’s offices

The former offices of Derby law firm Smith Partnership could be turned into an “escape room”.

Plans have lodged with Derby City Council by Time Travel Theatre of Coalville to turn the 4,000 sq ft building into an escape room-style leisure attraction, which will create seven jobs.

An escape room is a physical adventure game in which players are locked in a room and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles and escape within a set time limit. The games are physical versions of “escape the room” video games. They first became popular in the US around two years ago, but have since grown throughout the UK.

A statement from Time Travel Theatre said: “Visitors will typically book on online and arrive 15 minutes before their slot, when we will brief them and then take them into their room for the experience which lasts roughly 60 minutes, when they will be debriefed and leave. We will have a waiting area and reception for our visitors.”

If granted planning permission, this would be Derby’s second escape rooms, following Make Your Escape Derby, on Osmaston Road.
