A group of National Grid delegates have successfully completed a bespoke training course with Develop Training (DTL) that enables them to apply for Gas Safe registration.

The intensive 15-week bespoke course introduced delegates to a variety of learning, from gas safety legislation and standards, emergency actions and procedures, through to ventilation, installation of pipework and fittings, tightness testing and purging and the re-establishment of existing gas supply and re-lighting appliances.

Delegates undertook 10 days’ training at DTL’s Derby training centre alongside 10 weeks’ worth of on-site training, during which they built portfolios for assessment against CMA1 (Domestic Gas Meters) and MET4 (Installation of Domestic Gas Meters).

“The advantages to National Grid of putting operatives through this training course are many,” said DTL Business Development Manager Mark Burton, “It enables the operative to enhance their existing skills set, enabling National Grid to optimise the deployment of resources. But most importantly, it means service is resumed far quicker on site – the potential benefits are huge and this investment in training reflects National Grid’s commitment to providing excellent customer service.”

DTL Delivery Manager Darren Robson, who ran the delivery of the project and tailored the learning outcomes to National Grid’s specific requirements, said: “This was a fantastic group of high calibre individuals. They were engaged and motivated throughout, and I have the gas legislation queries sent to me via text message at 9pm on a Saturday to prove it!”

Terry Hartley, one of the delegates completing the course, was very impressed with the learning experience: “The overall experience has been brilliant, from the training we’ve received to the facilities. In particular, the training bays at DTL’s Derby centre are first class, as was the catering!”

Carl Williams, National Grid Network Engineer, said: “Customer satisfaction is important to all of us and these changes to the way we operate will ensure that we are in a position to deliver an excellent level of Customer service on every single interaction.”
