Manchester hospital scoops award

THE Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, the flagship of the £500m Central Manchester University Hospitals development, has been named as the UK’s best hospital building.

The award, which was made by trade magazine Health Business, praised the new hospital for raising the standard of the healthcare environment whilse generating value for money and project management excellence.

Roger Potts, general manager of Catalyst Healthcare (Manchester) Ltd, the PFI consortium that managed the build and the ongoing operation of the hospital, said: “We couldn’t be more pleased with this award and with the finished article.

“The award embodies our strategy and we continue to be extremely proud that we have delivered this award-winning children’s hospital, the biggest in Europe, to the people of Manchester.

“The team continues to do a fantastic job maintaining this world-class hospital. With the added gravitas of being Health Business’ best hospital building, the hospital is set to continue to be the envy of NHS Trusts across the UK.”

Four hospitals have been built at the complex covering 2.85m sq ft of space, which is almost twice the size of the Trafford Centre. It is one of the biggest PFI healthcare investments ever made in the UK, delivering more than 1,100 beds.
