Tritech on track with power contract

A North West engineering company has won a key contract working on a multi-million pound ‘green’ development at Drax’s coal fired power station in Yorkshire.
Tritech Rail of Wigan, a £5m turnover company with 40 staff, will work with C Spencer Limited on an £18m design and build contract to develop rail and handling systems for the power station’s co-firing biomass facility.
The largest of its kind in the world, this co-firing facility will mix and burn carbon neutral renewable biomass materials with coal, significantly reducing the C02 emissions from Drax’s power station.
Ian Rawlinson director at Tritech Rail said: “We have built a strong relationship with C Spencer on other key contracts and it’s great to be working with them again on such a major scheme.
“Once completed this co-firing facility will reduce Drax Power Station’s emissions of CO2 by over two and a half million tonnes per annum and combined with their existing co-firing facility will provide a total of 500MW of renewable electricity, or the equivalent output of over 600 wind turbines.”
