Street Crane supplies Bombardier

NORTH West-based Street Crane has supplied two cranes to Derby-based Bombardier to be used in the construction of new London commuter trains.

The £20m turnover firm, based at Chapel-en-le-Frith, designs and makes cranes at its workshop.

Sales director Gus Zona said: “Bombardier’s technically demanding specification required advanced cranes to ensure safe, continuous and flexible working in an extremely intensive production environment.”

Two identical 20-tonne ‘safe working load’ cranes have been installed. Each is fitted with twin 10-tonne hoists. The cranes will be used independently during the assembly of the trains, but are designed for tandem operation when moving complete train bodies.

Many of the Bombardier’s Electrostar trains have already been delivered and will operate on routes to the north and east of the capital.
