NW companies celebrate rankings in best workplace list

SIX North West companies have made it into The Financial Times 50 Best Workplaces list for 2009.

Two of those – Windermere-based Impact International and jewellers Beaverbrooks in St.Annes-on-Sea – managed a top 10 ranking, with third and eighth place respectively.

Meanwhile, Oliver Wyman Leadership Development, in Wilmslow, and Manchester- based companies Irwell Valley HA, Kelloggs, and The Co-operative Group ranked among the top 50.

Oliver Wyman was singled out for the openness and honesty of the management team and its monthly team forums, while Irwell Valley was recognised for its purpose built in house gyms and personal visits from the chief executive.

The Co- operative Group, which was a new entry this year, was rewarded for employee’s share in ownership and profit, and the right to flexible working.

As part of the entry criteria, companies had to provide evidence of their workplace initiatives including inspiring employees, regular communication and listening, thanking and caring for employees.

Kellogg’s, which employs 660 people at its Old Trafford head office, with another 440 at the plant, was recognised for providing employees with perks such as flexible working, summer hours and its Fit for Life, Fit For Work programme. Which aimed to create a positive work culture.

Karen Meehan, European HR director at Kelloggs, said: “We are extremely pleased to have made the top workplaces list for a second year, our people are our greatest asset and we constantly strive to ensure that we provide a workplace that they enjoy working in. This is why we have retained many of our employees for years and attracted great new talent to the business.”
