Jobs boost from Rolls-Royce investment

ENGINEERING giant Rolls-Royce said today it would be investing £300m in four new factories, one in the North West.
The company said the investment, which is being supported by the Government to the tune of £45m, would allow it to meet demand for expected growth in the aerospace and civil nuclear markets. The investment will create or secure 800 jobs.
As well as the investment in extending its existing facility in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, which employs 900, Rolls-Royce said it was creating 80 jobs in the region at an office in Warrington which will drive the growth of its civil nuclear business.
The expansion of the Lancashire site will see the creation of a facility to make wide chord fan blades for the military market. Barnoldswick presently makes the blades for commercial aircraft.
The move into the military sector results from Rolls-Royce’s involvement on the engine programme of the Lightning Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.
In Warrington Rolls-Royce has recently opened a technical office for its nuclear business at the Birchwood Business Park.
Rolls-Royce is leading the development of the UK’s Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, part of the Low Carbon Industrial Strategy.
