SHEPHERD Construction has secured a £20.4m contract to build phase three of the St Paul’s Square scheme in Liverpool on behalf of English Cities Fund.

SHEPHERD Construction has secured a £20.4m contract to build phase three of the St Paul’s Square scheme in Liverpool on behalf of English Cities Fund.

The project, which will be worth closer to £40m on completion,  follows Shepherd’s successful completion of earlier phases of development at St Paul’s Square.

Work on phase three – a new eight-storey grade A office block – will begin next week, with completion expected in May 2011.

The new contract is a two-stage negotiated design and build programme and Shepherd said it aims to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating for the building.

Peter Millett, managing director of Shepherd’s west division, said: “We are delighted to be back at St Paul’s Square for the final phase of its development. This latest contract win underpins the collaboration Shepherd engages with its clients, as well as the quality delivery of our projects.”

English Cities Fund comprises partners Muse Developments, Legal & General and Homes & Communities Agency.
