Geographers choose Manchester

THE University of Manchester’s flagship conference building has been chosen by The Royal Geographical Society (RGS) as the venue for its annual conference.

RGS, the professional body for geography and geographers, has chosen University Place on Oxford Road as the location for its first annual conference outside London since 2004.

The three-day conference, which begins on August 25, will cater for more than 1,000 geographers from 35 countries. It is the largest event of its kind in Europe.

Sarah Evans, sales manager at the University Conference Sales office said: “The decision by the RGS to hold its conference at University Place represents a real coup for both the venue and the city of Manchester.

“With delegates from around the world attending the event, it will be a great opportunity for us to showcase the outstanding facilities at University Place on the international conference stage.”

The £65m University Place situated on Oxford Road has a 1000-seat semi-circular auditorium which divides into two theatres. The eight-storey building also houses 23 flat-floored seminar rooms, an exhibition area and a 400-seat restaurant.
