Council gains CPO for Denton site

TAMESIDE Council has used compulsory purchase powers to buy land in Denton which will allow the Crown Point East retail park scheme to progress.
The development, which will now be known as Denton Retail Park, comprises 165,000 sq ft of retail and commercial space, including new public open space and new infrastructure such as a link road between Ashton Road and Edward Street. Langtree has also said that it intends to submit a planning application for up to 67 family homes on an adjacenmt site.
Langtree Group first received planning approval to build the development on the former Oldham Batteries site next to Junction 1a of the M67 motorway in Denton in August 2008.
At the time, it was proposing to build 88 apartments but has since changed the mix to family homes as the market has shifted. It is intended that the development will link to British Land’s adjacent Crown Point North scheme, which has Boots, Tesco and TK Maxx as tenants.
Stephen Barnes, development director at Langtree, said: “We are delighted that Tameside Council has made the CPO. This is another step forward in regenerating the former Oldham Batteries site.”
