Former LFC training ground will become housing and education facility

A new collaborative venture will see Liverpool FC’s former Melwood training ground become a sporting and education hub for the Liverpool City Region community.
The venture has been masterminded by transformation and regeneration group, Torus, and brings together the Fowler-Carragher Academy, set up by former Liverpool players Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher.
Melwood, in the West Derby district of the city, will also see Olympian Steve Parry’s organisation, swim!, make use of the swimming facilities.
The vision for a multi-generational, housing-led development by Torus will open up Melwood to the community.
The site will host a range of new affordable homes and an Education Academy, with the overarching aim of the project intended to enhance the community by providing high quality affordable homes and accessible sporting facilities to preserve the iconic sporting history of the site and create a legacy in its own right.
The complex deal was structured and advised upon by boutique corporate and commercial legal firm Primas Law, which guided Torus on the multi-disciplinary scheme.
Once planning permission is approved, work is expected to start on the site next year.
Simon Baxter, partner and head of real estate at Primas Law, advised on the deal and said: “We are delighted and honoured to work with Torus on such an exciting deal for the Liverpool City Region and look forward to seeing the iconic site take its new shape.
“We know it was such a priority for all parties involved that the historic relevance of the site was upheld, so the fact that it’ll now be used to support so many members of the community is a really fitting gesture.”
Primas has offices in Manchester, Cheshire and London and specialises in corporate, commercial and property law.
