BBC documentary makers call for businesses

THE makers of a new business programme for BBC2 want to hear from North West companies that are backshoring their production and operations to the UK.
Dragonfly TV, the production company behind documentaries One Born Every Minute, The Family and How Woolies Became Wellies – the story of one woman’s takeover of a local Woolworths store – is looking to profile a North West company that outsources some of its work abroad and is thinking about relocating it back to Britain.
“This is happening more and more in manufacturing and services and could see the return of jobs and industry in the UK. For example, Santander has already returned all its call centres from India back to the UK,” said Anju Passi at Dragonfly TV.
“Various factors are influencing this decision including: rising costs abroad; issues with quality control at a distance; issues around bulk ordering, language barriers and cultural differences; lack of lending from banks… to name a few.”
She added the company is keen to hear from businesses, whether it’s only an early idea or something they’re well advanced with.
“There is of course no obligation to take part and all calls are treated confidentially,” she added.
