Engineering group expands with new Haydock facility, creating 20 jobs

Around 20 jobs will be created by the expansion of engineering group Delkia to Haydock, St Helens this month.

Delkia, which specialises in safety-related and mission-critical systems for the defence and nuclear sectors, is opening a production facility to keep pace with its growing order book.

The new ‘Power and Propulsion Centre of Excellence’ at Haydock boasts 16,000 sq ft of manufacturing space and will specialise in large scale production, testing and assembly of power and propulsion systems for the defence sector.

The facility will have the capability to manage complex projects for the maritime and nuclear sectors, and will significantly increase Delkia’s ability to produce, store and work across varied projects.

The new jobs range from production engineers and workshop technicians to project managers and business administrators.

Located on a modern industrial site less than a mile from the M6, the manufacturing centre also includes several offices and meeting spaces for Delkia’s growing team, providing the facilities required as the company continues to expand.

Steve Postlethwaite, programme director at Delkia, is overseeing the logistics of setting up the new site, which is expected to be operational this May. His planning has been aided by 3D scans of the building, which have enabled virtual walkthroughs and detailed floorplans of the proposed layout of the new manufacturing facility to be drafted and shared with stakeholders.

He said: “This strategic move marks a significant milestone in Delkia’s growth and reinforces our commitment to expanding our production capacity and meeting the increasing demand for our products.

“This expansion will not only strengthen our position in the marketplace but also create new opportunities for innovation and new jobs in the communities where we operate. It is an exciting time for us to continue to build a strong future and drive success together.”

The new production centre sees Delkia develop a presence in Merseyside, adding to its existing production facilities and offices in Whitehaven and Egremont, Cumbria and Preston, Lancashire.
