Date set for Stockport County deal approval

THE Football League will consider a new offer for troubled Stockport County at a meeting next Thursday.

Administrators at Leonard Curtis have agreed terms with the Melrose Consortium, led by former Manchester city player Jim Melrose, but the deal depends on approval from both the Football League and Stockport’s landlord, Cheshire Sports.

The Coca-Cola League One club – which is currently bottom of the table – and has been in administration since last April, has been in talks with former Manchester City player Jim Melrose for a number of months.

Last month the Football League refused to ratify a proposed Melrose takeover deal.

In a statement Leonard Curtis said: “We can confirm that the administrators have agreed terms with the Melrose Consortium for the sale of the club. As with their previous offer however, the sale remains conditional upon them reaching agreement with the landlord, Cheshire Sports and the Football League. We understand that the next Football League board meeting is scheduled for 11th March.”
