Barclays to cut 422 jobs

HIGH Street bank Barclays has announced that it is to cut 422 jobs from its technology and infrastructure division – the bulk of which will be at its Radbrooke Hall base in Cheshire.
The bank said that it needed “to make essential changes to our technology and infrastructure division so that we can innovate in new technologies and services for our customers”.
It added that it was working with unions and affected staff to mitigate the number of compulsory redundancies it would have to make.
The move has been criticised by the union representing most of the affected staff, however.
David Fleming, Unite national officer, said: “The decision by Barclays Technology to cut 422 jobs is a new year’s blow for the staff.
“Unite has strongly opposed the sending of some of this work to Lithuania, when there are already highly-trained workers carrying out this work.”
