Developer sells Boddingtons hotel site

DEVELOPERS handling the former Boddingtons Brewery site in Manchester have completed the sale of a plot earmarked for a hotel scheme.
Deansgate Securities, a joint venture between Ask Developments and Realty Estates, has sold the plot – part of the seven-acre site – to Preston-based Marcus Worthington Properties (MWP) for an undisclosed sum.
Deansgate bought the brewery site, just behind the MEN Arena, in 2006 with backing from HSBC.
Earlier this year it agreed a pre-let with Travelodge for a 200-bedroom hotel on a 35-year lease. MWP will now carry out the construction work.
Deansgate’s Alan Burke said: “While the economy is still fragile and the property market remains subdued, it reflects a massive vote of confidence in the site, which is a stone’s throw from the highly successful MEN Arena and Manchester’s primary shopping area, the Arndale Centre.”
