New biomass joint venture for Stobart

STOBART Biomass Products, a joint venture between Warrington-based transport group Stobart and Mr AW Jenkinson, has acquired some of the business and assets of Sussex-based Amenity Horticultural Services (AHS).

AHS was a major manufacturer and supplier of woodchip biomass fuel to commercial and domestic customers.

Stobart Biomass is paying £2m in cash for the business – £1m of which will be paid by Stobart Group.

Jenkinson already owned 50 per cent of AHS, and Stobart Group said the deal would give the new joint venture “an immediate leading position in a new market”.

“This acquisition represents contracts for over 150,000 tonnes per year of biomass supply to the rapidly growing renewable heat market,” said Stobart Group CEO Andrew Tinkler.

“Thanks to progressive corporate policies and Governmental support, this is a market at the tipping point of massive potential growth, and the acquisition of AHS positions SBPL to grow strategically with the sector.”
