Partners consult on plans for Woodford

LOCAL people near Woodford Aerodrome are being invited to view plans for the development of the northern part of the site at a series of consultation events next week.

A consortium backed by JCB heir Joe Bamford bought the 500-acre site from BAe Systems in December last year in a £100m deal and a subsequent joint venture agreement was signed with Harrow Estates (part of Harrow Estates) to develop the northern part of the site for housing. It plans to build an 800-home ‘garden village’ on the site.

However, a new supplementary planning document needs to be created by Stockport and Cheshire East Councils incorporating the development before the scheme can begin, and residents are being asked to give their views on the plans, design, architecture and transport links to the scheme next week.

Consultation will take place at the Aerodrome on between 2-7pm next Friday and at Poynton Civic Hall from 10am-4pm on the Saturday.

The garden village development is the first phase of a broader redevelopment plan for the Aerodrome site. Owner Avro Heritage is also planning to bring forward a major film studio, equestrian centre and a visitor centre based on the site’s history.
