PM welcomes Turkish Airlines’ Airbus order

AIRBUS has won a contract with Turkish Airlines for 15 new A330 aircraft, a deal which is worth around £400m to the UK.
The contract will suppport jobs at Airbus’ giant factory at Broughton near Chester, where around 6,000 people work.
The aircraft will be operated on medium and long haul routes from the Turkish Airlines’ hub in Istanbul.
Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed the deal as “great news for the UK aerospace industry”.
“It proves how British business can succeed in the global race, by linking up with one of the world’s fastest growing economies to secure valuable contracts,” he added.
On a Ministerial visit to Istanbul, trade and investment minister Lord Green added: “This is a great deal for Airbus and for the UK. The A330 is a fabulous aircraft, which I am delighted to see is proving to be a great success in Turkish Airlines’ operation.
“Our aspiration is to double trade between the UK and Turkey by 2015 and British and Turkish businesses are rising to that challenge.”
Links between the North West and Turkish Airlines are strong thanks to its daily flight between Manchester and Istanbul and the airline’s sponsorship of Manchester United.
