Property briefs: Reprieve for Stockport HMV, and more

AN HMV at Stockport’s Merseyway shopping centre, that was earmarked for closure, will stay open after a deal was struck with the group’s administrator Deloitte.
Managing agent GVA said it had persuaded Deloitte to remove the 9,000 sq ft store from its list of those to be closed.
The deal means that the store, which employs 15 staff, will stay open and should be considered by any potential buyer of the business.
Lizzy Cox, principal surveyor of GVA, said: “The deal means that HMV at Merseyway is off the list of immediate store closures and leaves it in the best possible position regarding any new owners of HMV.
“There is no great deal of certainty about the future of the store but this agreement means that it will at least be considered as a viable concern to continue trading by whichever business acquires HMV.”
When HMV entered administration on January 15 it had 223 sites in the UK and employed more than 4,100 staff. Since then, more than 100 of the stores have been closed or are earmarked for closure.

GLOSSOP’S Howard Town Mill, which is owned by Peveril Securities in partnership with Real Estate Development Partnerships, has completed the £4.6m sale of its 51 apartments to a combination of private buyers and smaller investors.
The mixed-use scheme is now home to retailers including M&S Simply Food, Dominos, Mountain Warehouse and hotel group, Travelodge.
The residential element includes a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and nine penthouses.
Damian Flood, managing director of Real Estate Development Partnerships, said: “Selling all of the apartments so near to its completion date is a real coup for Howard Town Mill. This, coupled with recent lettings, has put Howard Town Mill firmly on the High Peak map and we are in discussions with interested parties about the remaining units.
“To help support the retailers and raise awareness about the scheme, we have set up a twitter and facebook page so that people can keep up to date with the latest news from Howard Town Mill and the wider town of Glossop.”
