Galliford Try wins Soapworks contract

GALLIFORD Try has been appointed to deliver the 210,000 sq ft second phase of the £70m Soapworks scheme in Salford.

The 400,000 sq ft office redevelopment of the former Colgate-Palmolive factory is being handled by asset manager The Carlyle Group and joint venture partners Nikal and Abstract Securities.

The scheme has been backed by a £6m loan from the European Union-backed £36m North West Evergreen Fund, managed by CBRE on behalf of the 10 Greater Manchester councils.

Once complete next year, the second phase will provide occupiers with Grade A space ranging from 1,500 sq ft to 210,000 sq ft and floorplates of up to 80,000 sq ft. Vital Services Group has signed up to the first phase, a 20,000 sq ft redevelopment of the factory’s old boilerhouse.

Ben Du Boulay, director at The Caryle Group, said: “The appointment of Galliford Try is a significant step forward in the Soapworks regeneration project and, together with the Evergreen funding, means that after much hard work and planning we can now commence construction works.”

The scheme has been designed by architect ShedKM.
