Govt must do more to promote Green Deal, says trade body

A GROUP of energy-related businesses is calling on the Government to promote its Green Deal loans service more widely.
Under the Green Deal customers fund energy saving measures using loans to be repaid over 25 years through their energy bills.
The Government wants 10,000 homes to be transformed under the scheme this year but figures show that there was not a single live Green Deal plan up to June 16, with just four plans “pending.”
Energy Response Force, a trade group that includes companies such as Knauf Insulation and Worcester boilers, believes more needs to be done to encourage demand for the initiative.
Spokesman Steven Heath said: “Given these disappointing figures, it is obvious that householders are not being given enough encouragement to improve their energy efficiency.
“But it should be stressed that all is not lost and, as the Government has said, the Green Deal is in its very early stages. More than 20,000 households have been assessed by Green Deal representatives since the scheme was launched in January.”
