Pure picks up South Lakeland redundancies

HOLIDAY park operator Pure Leisure has taken on seven staff its says were among some 20 who have lost their jobs as a result of last week’s sale of South Lakeland Parks to private equity house Electra.
Carnforth-based Pure, a one time owner of South Lakeland, said the new recruits will help with the future growth as the business looks to acquire new parks.
Pure’s managing director Tony Fox said: “We are delighted to be taking the additional staff on as they are all highly experienced and valuable personnel who will be a huge asset to us. As a result of the sale, staff are losing their jobs and I am pleased to say we have been able to save nearly a third of the head office team by creating employment within our portfolio of parks.”
Pure, owned by John Morphet, originally established South Lakeland Parks in 1988 and then sold it in 2006. It now operates four sites in the Southern Lake District, four in Northamptonshire and the East Anglia as well as a Golf & Leisure estate at Bridlington in North Yorkshire. Last year it took a £1m loan to develop another golf & leisure estate at Tydd St Giles in Cambridgeshire. Overseas the company owns Royal Westmoreland, a luxury 750-acre estate in Barbados.
Mr Fox added: “We are keen to expand our business and we are actively looking at acquiring more parks across the country to add to our portfolio meaning we need more staff to help us do this.”
Electra directed questions about redundancies to Hemel Hempstead-based Park Resorts, another of its businesses which is now managing South Lakeland. Park could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
