Merebank conversion approved by council

LIVERPOOL City Council has approved plans to refurbish Merebank Tower in the city’s Sefton Park conservation area.
The former council-owned block on Greenbank Drive will be converted into 78 one, two and three-bedroom apartments. It has been empty for some time.
The Homes and Communities Agency sold the block to Manchester-based Fortis Developments subject to planning earlier in the year. Liverpool architects Falconer Chester Hall were appointed to design the conversion.
Falconer Chester Hall’s managing director Adam Hall said: “This was an extremely interesting and exciting commission to turn a number of empty units back into a vibrant, residential property.
“Merebank Tower is a highly visible landmark and these proposals will return animation to a building which has remained largely unoccupied for some time, but which has tremendous potential.”
Work will start later this month and should be finished in a year’s time.
