Prof Fiona Devine confirmed as Manchester Business School head

PROFESSOR Fiona Devine, acting head of Manchester Business School since September, has been confirmed in the role.

Her permanent appointment comes into effect on January 1. She was previously head of the School of Social Sciences.

Her research interests are in the fields of social stratification and mobility, work and employment, and politics and participation from a comparative US/UK perspective.

Prof Devine was awarded an OBE for Services to Social Sciences in 2010 and elected to the Academy of Social Sciences in 2011.

She said: “I am delighted to be Head of Manchester Business School – one of the top business schools in the world.

“I look forward to working with excellent staff in support of The University of Manchester’s agenda for world-leading research, outstanding learning and student experience and commitment to social responsibility.

“It will be exciting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of MBS in 2015 and to enjoy the substantial investment in facilities, including a new hotel and executive education suite and the full redevelopment of School estate, which begins in the New Year. ”
