Record job creation figures for MIDAS

MANCHESTER’S inward investment agency MIDAS said it helped bring 4,067 jobs to the city last year.
The public body, which helps and supports inward investors, worked on 75 projects which created, protected or relocated a total of 5,614 jobs, up from 4,143 in 2012-13.
It estimates the economic impact of these jobs to be £285.8m.
Around half came from foreign firms and of these 66% were from North America and Europe, and 15% from China.
It is currently working with defence group BAE Systems to bring a significant number of high value engineering jobs to Greater Manchester.
The business services, logistics and financial and professional services sectors supplied the highest number of new jobs – 30%, 23% and 16% respectively. Nearly a quarter of the 75 projects stemmed from manufacturing and 21% came from the ICT, media and creative sector.
Advanced Manufacturing investors include US advanced materials producers Tygavac and semiconductor company NXP which together created 115 jobs and safeguarded 58 jobs.
