Business leaders honoured in Queen’s Birthday list

MANCHESTER entrepreneur Scott Fletcher, Majid Hussain, the boss of Lancashire-based Accrol Papers and the head of Everton FC’s community charity, Denise Barrett-Baxendale, are among the regional recipients in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Mr Fletcher, boss of technology group ANS, Mrs Barrett-Baxendale, who is chief executive of the Everton in the Community charity, and Mr Hussain have been made MBEs.

Receiving the one of the highest honours, a knighthood, is Cheshire-based Professor Cary Cooper of Lancaster University Management School, an expert in organisational psychology.

This honour was also bestowed on health service boss Michael Deegan, chief executive of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Meanwhile Cheshire born consumer rights champion Martin Lewis, the founder of  Money Saving Expert, was awarded the OBE.

Mr Lewis, a multi-millionaire after selling his business to Moneysupermarket.com was honoured for services to consumer rights and charitable services through the MSE Charity Fund.

Also becoming an OBE are : Chester-based Richard James Coackley, director of energy development, environmental and natural resources at URS and David Hodgkiss, chief executive of engineering company  William Hare Group.

Mr Hodgkiss from Penrith, Cumbria, was acknowledged for services to manufacturing and exporting.

Other North West recipients of the MBE are:

Stockport’s Phillip Brown, managing director and founder of Benchmark Building Supplies and chairman of the Tameside Enterprise Board;Julie Madigan, Manufacturing Institute

Andrew Holt founder and managing director of What More UK. Mr Brown was honoured for services to manufacturing and the community in Burnley.

BT executive Robert Hornby, from Warrington, project director, Openreach Next Generation Access, who receives his award for services to broadband access in rural communities;

Dr Julie Madigan from Northwich, chief executive of the Manchester-based Manufacturing Institute, pictured,  was honoured for services to business and the community in the North West and  Eileen Williams, managing director of ESTC Group for services to UK trade and the community in Cheshire.
