MEN moves out of Manchester

THE media group that publishes the Manchester Evening News and a string of weeklies around Greater Manchester is moving from its Spinningfield’s base to Oldham this weekend.

MEN Media’s move marks the end of an era for the Manchester Evening News which has had its head office in the city centre for more than 140 years.

The decision follows the acquisition of the group by Trinity Mirror from GMG Regional Media in March for £7.4m and the cancellation of a £37.4m printing contract. The operation is moving to a Trinity site in Chadderton.

The Manchester Evening News will retain a presence in the city at a new office next to Kro Bar at One Piccadilly. Management said the move would take place over three consecutive weekends and will be finished by October 4.

In a statement David Sharrock, managing director of MEN Media, said: “We’re excited about completing our move to the new Chadderton site, but in many ways it is business as usual.

“We will continue to serve our loyal readers and advertisers by focusing on publishing engaging content in the Manchester Evening News, twenty weekly titles and companion websites.”
