Outline approval for rural housing scheme

PROPOSALS to build 21 new homes in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) near Lancaster have moved a step closer after the development secured outline planning consent.

Harrison Pitt Architects has secured the permission on behalf of the landowner for the scheme at Millhead, near Warton, in the Arnside and Silverdale AONB.

The one-hectare site, off Mill Lane, is currently used as an agricultural field but is bordered by residential land on three sides.

The landowner has sold the site to an unnamed developer which should submit detailed plans next year.

Richard Wooldridge, architect at Harrison Pitt Architects, said: “It has been a seven-year process for the landowner to gain planning permission for this site after an original application failed at appeal in 2007.

“After being brought on board, we have worked with the landowner, planners and a range of local stakeholders to devise a new housing scheme that will not only boost the supply of new housing in this picturesque rural area, but one that also addresses the concerns of local residents.

“We have a long track record of designing homes in sensitive areas and this will be a carefully designed scheme that will deliver high-quality sustainable homes in an area of high housing need.”
