IT entrepreneur becomes role model

A DIRECTOR of Bury-based telecommunications and IT business Genesis has been selected to take part in a new black role model programme launched today by Communities Secretary Hazel Blears.
Piers Linney joins other businessmen, journalists, servicemen, a fire-fighter, lawyers and media experts to take part in the first national role model programme for black boys and young black men.
The role models have been selected following a nationwide recruitment campaign and they will help raise the aspirations and attainment of black boys.
Mr Linney grew up in Rossendale, Lancashire. He attended Fearns School and Manchester University before attending law school. He worked as a corporate financier in the mergers and acquisitions department of Credit Suisse before setting up his first internet venture.
He is a major shareholder in Genesis Communications following a management buyout from DSG International.
