Liverpool aims to revitalise 2,000 homes

LIVERPOOL City Council is to invest £5m to help bring 2,000 empty homes back into use.

The city estimates it has some 7,500 vacant properties that are mostly privately owned.

Over the past two years it has brought 1,300 back into use.

According to a document prepared ahead of a cabinet meeting on Friday, the authority wants to spend £5m on a range a measures in a bid to speed up the renovation of derelict properties.

It will double the size of a team which was working on an original target of 1,000 homes, extend the homes for a pound scheme, match developers with people who want to sell properties, and set up an empty homes task force.

There will also be a “voluntary acquisitions programme”, carry out enforced acquisitions, and offer loans for repairs.
