Bruntwood investing £20m in Liverpool

PROPERTY investor Bruntwood has unveiled plans to spend nearly £20m in projects across Liverpool’s commercial district in 2015.

The family-owned business is part of Liverpool’s MIPIM delegation and is currently undertaking a £5m programme of upgrades across its nine properties in the quarter mile area in addition to several major projects at sites including The Plaza, Cotton Quarter and Queen Insurance Buildings.

More than £3m is being spent at The Plaza to redevelop its third and fourth floors, including bringing the former plant floor back into use as workspace, and create a business lounge for the IoD.

Work continues on the £2m redevelopment of the Cotton Quarter, which includes the introduction of several innovative creative workspaces and high-speed internet connectivity at Cotton Exchange and a complete refurbishment and facelift for Cotton House, which will also receive an additional restaurant investment of up to £1m.

Developments totalling £4m are ongoing at the Queen Insurance Buildings on Castle Street to deliver a CAU restaurant and a new hotel operated by Tune Hotels, complemented by significant refurbishment of the adjacent 24 Queen Avenue.

Orleans House on Edmund Street is scheduled to undergo a £5m overhaul later this year, with details of the work set to be unveiled in the coming months, while Oriel Chambers and Covent Garden are also in line to receive a joint investment of almost £2.5m in 2015.

Colin Sinclair, director of property marketing at Bruntwood, said: “We are reaffirming our faith in Liverpool’s bright future by committing to a multimillion pound upgrade of our stock in the heart of the commercial district this year.

“A number of headline schemes are forging ahead and will ultimately provide a real boost to the city’s commercial offer and a catalyst for its continued economic growth.

“From unique creative spaces and super fast connectivity to stunning roof gardens and groundbreaking leisure facilities, we are determined to ensure our properties are central to Liverpool’s continued resurgence.”
