Kampus strategic framework plan backed

MANCHESTER City Council has adopted plans to create a brand new £150m district named Kampus.
Joint venture partners Capital & Centric and Henry Boot Developments submitted a strategic regeneration framework on March 18 outlining the large scale mixed use development plans including the reopening of the hidden Little David Street, closed off for decades.
It is the first step of the process and a detailed planning application is to be presented to the authority soon.
Kampus is set to include more than 500 apartments, hotels and leisure space aimed at independent restaurants and artisan bars.
The Framework for the 450,000sq ft scheme that has been out for consultation was adopted on Wednesday.
The site previously known as the Aytoun Street Campus was home to the MMU business school until 2012 when they relocated to the new £75m All Saints Campus off Oxford Road.
The joint venture partners worked with the Manchester School of Architecture in a design competition drawing influence from the up and coming designers on the 2.3 acre site.
Adam Higgins, director at Capital & Centric, said: “It was fantastic working with the students at such an early stage in the design, they helped mould our plans for the development and we were taken aback by both their creativity and design flair. We’re delighted to have the framework adopted and think it’s great that the University has been involved in the changing landscape of their legacy site.”
Adam Brady, of Henry Boot Developments, said: “The adoption of the Strategic Regeneration Framework is excellent news in bringing forward a unique new sub-district in the best development location in Manchester. Kampus will embody an individual new vibe in Manchester with its eclectic mix of architecture and ground floor presence.”
