Macdonald Townhouse rebrands after ‘natural end’ of deal

THE Macdonald Townhouse Hotel has been rebranded the Townhouse Hotel Manchester, after owners of the historic building, Harcourt, took direct operational control.

This follows the natural end of the lease with Macdonald which ended recently.

The Hotel on Portland Street employs about 50 people and any staff wishing to stay on will be retained by the company.

Harcourt is now discussing possible plans to invest in the 85-room facility.

A statement on behalf of Harcourt scotched rumours the property had been bought by owners of Liverpool’s Titanic Hotel.

“Titanic Hotel Liverpool and Townhouse Hotel Manchester are completely separate hotels,” he said.

A spokesman from Macdonald said: “Macdonald Hotels & Resorts can confirm that it has not renewed the lease on the Townhouse Hotel, Manchester after five successful years of managing the property.

“The Hotel reverted to management by the ownership company on October 11.

Macdonald Hotels will focus its forward strategy in Manchester on the ongoing development of its flagship property, Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa, the largest four star hotel in the city.

The hotel was also voted “Best Luxury Hotel” in the city at the Eat Sleep and Drink Awards 2015.
